About Dzodze-Penyi
Senior High School.
Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School is situated in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region, along the Dzodze-Aflao Road, approximately 80 kilometers from the regional capital, Ho. The school’s digital address is VY-0019-5506.
Originally established as a Teacher Training College (Dzodze Training College) on 25th October, 1963, the institution began with sixty-two (62) students and four (4) Tutors. This milestone was achieved through the collaborative efforts of Mr. P.K. Kpeto, the then District Commissioner, Chief Ahiadzro- Adzofia IV, the then member of parliament for the area, and Torgbui Dey II, the then acting Paramount chief of Dzodze.
Subsequently, on 1st October, 1971, the Ministry of Education transformed the school into a secondary school and relocated it to its present site, officially naming it Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School. The school’s name is a tribute to the two adjacent towns, Dzodze and Penyi, which generously contributed portions of their traditional lands for the construction of the school.
At the outset, the inaugural group of Form One secondary students comprised 10 individuals, consisting of 6 boys and 4 girls.
Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School stands as a non- denominational institution, guided by the motto ‘STOOP TO CONQUER’.
From its modest origins with only ten students, the school has grown significantly and now accommodates 3,508 students with a staff population of 160. Impressively, as of 2021, the school was ranked second in academic performance (based on WAEC Analysis) in the Volta Region.
Notwithstanding these achievements, the school faces considerable infrastructural challenges, with some classes still being conducted under sheds and limited facilities such as the dining hall and only four resident staff bungalows, a situation that has persisted since its inception to date.
